Election Results 2008

A Victory for Conservatives in South Carolina

Dear Friends,

It's hard to believe that the 2008 election, which began more than 22 months ago with primaries and caucuses, is now behind us. I am so pleased that this year brought record-breaking voter turnout across South Carolina and here in Oconee County. It was great to see so many people exercising the right and privilege we have in voting.

First, I want to say thank you for re-electing me to represent you in the S.C. House of Representatives. I appreciate the faith you have placed in me and I am honored to protect your interests in our state government. I want to offer my sincere congratulations to Senator Thomas Alexander and Representative Bill Whitmire, who have faithfully served with me on the Oconee County delegation and have been re-elected. It is a pleasure to work with these men because we have a very cohesive and effective delegation.

In South Carolina, Republicans have won a decisive victory in our state House and Senate. With a conservative majority, we can continue to fight for important issues such as keeping taxes in check, improving education, building a better business climate to create jobs, and reforming government to make it more efficient and accountable. All of the South Carolina election results can be viewed online at www.scvotes.org.

On the national level, I know that many of you share my feelings and wish the outcome of the presidential race had been different. Senator John McCain was widely supported in Oconee County and across South Carolina. As McCain expressed in his gracious concession speech, I agree that we must now put partisanship aside and work together to get our nation back on track.

I also want to offer my congratulations to U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham and Congressman Gresham Barrett who have been re-elected. We are fortunate to have these men from Oconee County looking after our interests in Washington.

Locally, we elected three conservatives to our County Council--Joel Thift, Reg Dexter, and Wayne McCall. We also re-elected Greg Nowell as County Treasurer. I extend my congratulations to these men and look forward to working with them as we serve the people of Oconee County.

In closing, please let me thank you again for your friendship and encouragement during the 2008 election. I appreciate the ways that so many of you have volunteered to help with my campaign, contributed financially, and encouraged your friends and neighbors to vote. As you've been there for me, I am committed to being there for you. My door is always open and I'm ready to help!

With appreciation and gratitude,

Rep. Bill Sandifer

S.C. House of Representatives
