Dear Friends,
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for the opportunity to continue serving you in the South Carolina House of Representatives. It is truly an honor and privilege to represent you. I assure you that I will continue to do the very best job I can to make our community an even better place to live and work.
I’ve always been taught that God moves in mysterious ways. Maybe, he has used this political campaign to make me more humble. I have certainly learned a new level of humility. I am so appreciative of the outpouring of love and support I have received over the last few weeks. I am absolutely thrilled with the support I received at the polls yesterday and that support was truly overwhelming. However, what humbled me most were the hundreds of phone calls, personal notes, emails, financial contributions, and personal words of encouragement during the times when my track record and even my character were under attack. My grateful thanks to all of you. I especially want to say thanks to my wife, Sandra, who has been my Rock of Gibraltar.
In early April, I sent a “Negative Campaign Alert” to the voters in House District 2. When I did, I knew that we could expect a negative campaign against me. However, I never dreamed that it would be as painful as it has been.
While I am saddened by the tone of the recent campaign, I have been and will always be committed to taking the “higher road.” To me, that means voting with integrity -- the way that the people of Oconee County want me to -- rather than being influenced by special interests. It also means listening and “staying in touch” with you, so that I can fully understand the needs of our community and protect your interests in Columbia. As always, I am committed to having an open-door policy and to lending a helping hand to the people of Oconee County.
You have been wonderful to me and to my family during all of this. Your kindnesses have given me the strength and endurance to continue. It has been extremely difficult not to lash out in retaliation, but I promised to run a clean campaign and I have honored that promise.
May God richly bless you. As we move forward, I ask for your continued prayers for me and for our beloved state of South Carolina.
Sincerely,
Rep. Bill Sandifer
