A Veterans Day Message

Dear Friend,

Today is Veterans Day. It is a very special time that we mark with a national ceremony and observances throughout our state and nation. All across the country, stirring parades and ceremonies will show our appreciation to those who have worn the uniform of the United States.

American veterans deserve our deepest appreciation and respect. These men and women have served with honor and made tremendous sacrifices, many of them paying the ultimate price for our freedom. Today we reflect upon their profound contributions--their patriotism, bravery, love of country, and willingness to serve.

Today, I encourage you to take a few minutes to consider the great sacrifices men and women have made to guard our freedom. I encourage you to take part in a commemoration planned in your community and to involve your children and grandchildren so they can understand the significance of this day. I encourage you to seek out ways to care for veterans, those in active duty, and their families as a way to say "thank you for giving so much."

As a 20-year member of the National Guard, I want to take an opportunity today to salute my fellow servicemen and servicewomen. If you are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces or have served in the past, I want to personally thank you and honor you for protecting our freedom. You are truly a hero!
