Dear Friend:
I wanted to take time today to wish you and your family a very happy 4th of July. I hope that you are able to enjoy the day with picnics, parades and displays of fireworks--all in the company of those you love.
July 4th is a special day that we can celebrate our country's birth and heritage. We can stop to reflect on what makes our nation great and the fact that it remains a land of promise and opportunity.
It was this day 233 years ago when our forefathers defined freedom to the rest of the world. In our Declaration of Independence, America proclaimed that, "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
Even as we face some challenging days as a state and a nation, these timeless truths our forefathers articulated so well still ring true. We still enjoy great freedoms in America such as the freedom of speech, the freedom to worship, and the freedom to vote and choose our own leaders.
I hope that you will take a moment today to remember how blessed we are to be Americans and to live in the greatest nation in the world. Happy July 4th!
